H.R. No. 663
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Approximately 1,100 Texas children and adolescents
are diagnosed with cancer each year, and the fortitude and grace
with which they bear this daunting experience stands as a testament
to us all; and
WHEREAS, Seven-year-old Jacqueline Elena Black of Corpus
Christi is one such child, and with unfaltering bravery and
optimism, she has undergone two surgeries and many treatments since
receiving her diagnosis; throughout it all, she has remained her
fun-loving, lively self, often heard telling jokes and giggling
with her friends and siblings; and
WHEREAS, Enjoying the love and support of her parents,
Barbara Canales and Paul Black, Jackie continues to struggle with
an unjust enemy, refusing to let the disease dampen her love for
life; she draws comfort from her grandmother, Yolanda Canales, who
has been by her side since the beginning, and her devotion to
animals and nature; and
WHEREAS, Scientists and medical professionals across the
state and nation are tirelessly committed to developing and
providing exceptional treatment practices to control and eliminate
cancer; although the battle continues for many children, one day
the shadow of cancer will no longer haunt our most vulnerable
citizens; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby extend best wishes to
Jacqueline Elena Black and all children across the state who are
struggling with cancer and commend all those involved in the fight
to end this devastating disease.
