H.R. No. 673


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Family and friends were saddened by the passing of W. Carloss Morris, Jr., of Houston on November 17, 2005, yet the memory of his full and happy life offers a measure of comfort in their time of loss and grief; and WHEREAS, A former trial lawyer, Mr. Morris was the co-CEO of Stewart Information Services Corporation, the parent company of Houston-based Stewart Title Company; he served in that role with his younger brother, Stewart Morris, for many years; and WHEREAS, Established by Mr. Morris's grandfather, Stewart Title Company became one of the four largest title companies in the country while under the control of the Morris brothers; together they worked to expand the company until its reach went from local to regional to national; and WHEREAS, Not content to succeed only in business, Mr. Morris was also a passionate advocate for those in need, and he demonstrated his commitment to helping the less fortunate by serving as director of Goodwill Industries and as chairman of the Star of Hope Mission board of directors; and WHEREAS, Mr. Morris also chaired the board of Baylor University College of Medicine and served as president of the Texas Safety Association; in the 1970s, he chaired the American Bar Association's advisory commission on housing and urban growth; and WHEREAS, W. Carloss Morris, Jr., was a man of strong principles who possessed a sense of duty that never waned, and although his death has brought great sorrow to those who loved him, his life was an inspiring example of the good that one person can accomplish; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of W. Carloss Morris, Jr., and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of his family; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of W.
