R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, With the passing of Ted Anderson on March 28, 2006, at the age of 84, the Corpus Christi community has lost a visionary businessman, an accomplished attorney, and a civic leader of compassion and wisdom; and WHEREAS, Born March 9, 1922, in Colorado, Mr. Anderson moved to Corpus Christi with his family in 1939; he attended Texas A&M University and went on to serve in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II; after the war, he entered law school at The University of Texas, and on his graduation in 1948, he returned to his adopted hometown to embark on a career as an attorney that would last half a century; and WHEREAS, In the early 1950s, Mr. Anderson served as assistant district attorney for Nueces County, and in 1955 he cofounded Corpus Christi Title Company; his notable accomplishments in both law and real estate underscore his importance to Corpus Christi; and WHEREAS, A former director of the Nueces County Bar Association, he was instrumental in the development of that organization's Legal Aid Society, serving as its president for several years; he also chaired the Legal Aid Committee and the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee of the Corpus Christi Bar Association and helped to found Corpus Christi Lawyer, the association's publication; and WHEREAS, In addition, Mr. Anderson was active in the real estate market, acquiring and developing numerous properties over the years, including shopping centers and subdivisions in Corpus Christi as well as acreage in Houston, Austin, and Temple; a member of the Builders Association for the Corpus Christi Area board, he coordinated a project to provide transitional housing for the homeless; moreover, he served as president of the nonprofit Builders Transitional Housing, Inc., formed the nonprofit Modesett Foundation, and developed a Christian retreat center; and WHEREAS, An active member of the Downtown Lions Club, this esteemed professional lent his time and talent to many other worthwhile endeavors, serving as president of the boards of directors of Family Counseling Services, Goodwill Industries, and the United Way of Corpus Christi; he derived great spiritual strength from the community of faith at First United Methodist Church, and he wrote a book entitled Let's Talk About Faith to better share his beliefs with friends and colleagues; and WHEREAS, At the heart of Mr. Anderson's life was his loving and close-knit family, and he took great pride and pleasure in the achievements of his wife and their children and grandchildren; and WHEREAS, In giving of himself to help shape and strengthen the town he loved, Ted Anderson has left a legacy of good works and accomplishment that will continue to have a positive influence in the lives of his fellow Texans for years to come; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of Ted Anderson and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife of more than 55 years, Peggy Anderson; to their children and children's spouses, T. Mark Anderson and his wife, Deborah, Carol Christine Anderson-Colville and her husband, Jim, Jeffrey David Anderson, and Patricia Gail Riley and her husband, Shane; to his grandchildren, Travis, Connor, Alexandra, Noelle, Austin, and Tessa; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Ted Anderson.
