H.R. No. 689


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Those Texans who routinely risk their lives to ensure the safety and well-being of their fellow citizens are truly deserving of our admiration and gratitude; and WHEREAS, Jonestown police officer Pat Pace is one such individual, as was demonstrated by his heroic rescue of Travis County resident Barbara Vidlund from her burning house; and WHEREAS, On arriving at the scene to find the house enveloped in flames, Officer Pace set about trying to determine whether anyone was still inside; after entering the home twice and finding no one, he heard a voice coming from one of the rooms; he immediately crawled back inside through thick smoke, found Ms. Vidlund, and carried her to safety; and WHEREAS, In risking his own life to save that of another, Officer Pace embodied the highest ideals of the peace officer's profession, and his courage in a potentially tragic situation is an inspiration to every Texan; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby honor Jonestown police officer Pat Pace on his rescue of Barbara Vidlund and extend to him sincere best wishes for every success in the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Officer Pace as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
