R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Nancy Vera, a teacher at Wynne Seal Middle School in Corpus Christi, has been named a local Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year for 2006; and WHEREAS, Ms. Vera was selected to receive this prestigious award on the strength of her proven dedication as a mentor, motivator, and innovator in education, as well as her ability to make learning exciting and fun; her nomination noted her devotion to helping students succeed in education and life by establishing the "Coca Café," which offered young people a place to excel in reading and seek advice with school opportunities; and WHEREAS, The Teacher of the Year program honors outstanding teachers throughout the United States and is contributing $7,000 to Corpus Christi area schools, $437,000 in the state of Texas, and $4.9 million nationwide; in receiving this accolade, Ms. Vera has secured a $1,000 educational grant for her school and become eligible to compete for state and national teacher of the year awards; and WHEREAS, A teacher who has earned the lasting respect of students and peers alike, Ms. Vera is indeed deserving of commendation for her many exceptional achievements; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Nancy Vera on her receipt of a 2006 Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year award and extend to her best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Vera as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
