R E S O L U T I O N
	WHEREAS, Esmeralda Garza, a preschool teacher at St. Anthony 
School in Robstown for the past 21 years, has been named a local 
Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year for 2006; and
	WHEREAS, Ms. Garza was selected to receive this prestigious 
award on the strength of her proven dedication as a mentor, 
motivator, and innovator in education, and her ability to make 
learning exciting and fun; her nomination noted her commitment to 
the teaching profession as well as her encouragement and support 
for each student in the classroom; and
	WHEREAS, The Teacher of the Year program honors outstanding 
teachers throughout the United States and is contributing $7,000 to 
Corpus Christi area schools, $437,000 in the State of Texas, and 
$4.9 million nationwide; in receiving this accolade, Ms. Garza has 
secured a $1,000 educational grant for her school and become 
eligible to compete for state and national teacher of the year 
awards; and
	WHEREAS, A teacher who has earned the lasting respect of 
students and peers alike, Ms. Garza is indeed deserving of 
commendation for her many exceptional achievements; now, 
therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas 
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Esmeralda 
Garza on her receipt of a 2006 Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year award 
and extend to her best wishes for continued success; and, be it 
further
	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 
prepared for Ms. Garza as an expression of high regard by the Texas 
House of Representatives.
