H.R. No. 712


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The 100th birthday of an esteemed Texan is always cause for celebration and on May 23, 2006, Miriam Smith Vale is marking this milestone in her long and accomplished life; and WHEREAS, Born in Lindale on May 23, 1906, Mrs. Vale graduated from Texas Woman's University, and in 1927, she traveled by train to Rio Grande City to accept a teaching position; she shared her love of learning with area youth as an educator for the next three decades; and WHEREAS, Three years after her arrival in South Texas, on February 19, 1930, Mrs. Vale married Arnold Joseph Vale, and the couple shared a loving marriage until his passing in 1991; they were blessed with three sons, Arnold Joseph Vale, Jr., Samuel Franklin Vale, and John Edward Vale; and WHEREAS, Through the years, Mrs. Vale has been active in a number of civic organizations, including the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Daughters of the Confederate Soldiers, and Colonial Dames of the 17th Century; her membership has also benefited the Starr County Historical Society, the American Association of University Women, and the Federated Women's Clubs; and WHEREAS, Blessed with a century of wonderful memories, Miriam Smith Vale remains a source of genuine inspiration to all those who share in the richness of her life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby recognize Miriam Smith Vale on the momentous occasion of her 100th birthday and extend to her best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mrs. Vale as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
