R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, All Star Family Connections, Inc., has announced the recipients of the 2006 Achievement Awards; and WHEREAS, An organization that aims to identify critical issues facing African American families, All Star Family Connections encourages family reunions, scholarships and academic counseling, historical preservation, and other worthy endeavors in an effort to renew a spirit of collective responsibility; and WHEREAS, In celebration of Juneteenth 2006, the group is honoring descendants of Milton and James Patton, who were cofounders of St. Mary's Colony; this African American farming community was established by emancipated slaves on land in Bastrop County that was willed to them by their former owners, James and Mary Doyle; and WHEREAS, The 2006 Achievement Award Recipients are: Barbara Carruthers Hancock, academics, Johnnie Wilson Hearne, civics, Mary Patton Thomas, corporate, Mary Townsend Garrison, education, Iraina Green Crenshaw, entertainment, James Alexander, entrepreneurship, Bennie Matthews, government, Imogene Cavanaugh Schuler, health and medicine, Denise Vitra Munday, law and law enforcement, Moriam Walker, military, Marvin Crenshaw, political, Addie Lorraine Walker, religion, Paula Wiley, social service, Alvin Matthews, sports, Richard Dixon, trades, and Tommie Crenshaw, work ethics; and WHEREAS, In recognizing these notable individuals, All Star Family Connections seeks to instill community pride and to celebrate achievement over obstacles; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate the recipients of the 2006 All Star Family Connections Achievement Awards and extend to them best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for these fine men and women as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
