R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, After 20 years of service as a member of the Texas House of Representatives, the Honorable Robert D. "Bob" Hunter is retiring from public office, and it is indeed appropriate to reflect on his impressive two-decade tenure at this time; and WHEREAS, Elected to represent the citizens of Abilene and Taylor County in a special election in 1986, Dr. Hunter is a veteran leader in the Texas House and currently serves as vice chairman of the House Committee on Regulated Industries and as a member of the House Committee on Government Reform; and WHEREAS, This esteemed legislator, long renowned as a goodwill ambassador for the house, was a five-term chairman of the House Committee on State, Federal, and International Relations; he also co-chaired the House Select Committee on NAFTA and GATT; and WHEREAS, Dr. Hunter served as the Texas vice chairman for the American Legislative Exchange Council and its Trade and Transportation Task Force and as a member of the Economic and Cultural Development Committee for the National Conference of State Legislatures, the Intergovernmental Affairs Committee for the Southern Legislative Conference, and the International Committee for the Council of State Governments; and WHEREAS, This respected academician holds doctorates from Texas Wesleyan College, the University of St. Thomas, Hardin-Simmons University, McMurry University, and Abilene Christian University and is the recipient of an honorary doctor of laws degree from Pepperdine University; he earned bachelor's and master's degrees in business administration from Abilene Christian and enjoyed a distinguished 37-year tenure as one of the university's most esteemed administrators; and WHEREAS, A dedicated advocate for children, students, and educational facilities, this commendable gentleman is a member of the Texas Legislative Caucus for Missing and Exploited Children and has long been an active supporter of the state's institutions for higher learning; he has also served on the advisory boards of the Abilene/Taylor County Child Advocacy Center and the Chisholm Trail Council of the Boy Scouts of America; and WHEREAS, With retirement on the horizon, our colleague can look forward to spending more time with his wife, Shirley, and their children and grandchildren, and he can take pride in knowing that he has made a positive difference in the lives of countless Texans through his efforts as a state representative; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend the Honorable Bob Hunter for his many years of dedicated service to his constituents and to the citizens of Texas and extend to him best wishes for happiness and success in the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Dr. Hunter as an expression of highest regard by his colleagues in the Texas House of Representatives.
