R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, On December 31, 2005, Cleo Greer of Mineola celebrated her 84th birthday alongside family members and friends, each of whom has been blessed by her love, warmth, and kindness; and WHEREAS, Known to her family and friends as "Hawkins," Mrs. Greer was born in that small Piney Woods community in 1921 and grew up in the nearby farming town of Fouke; she lettered in basketball and was a star player for her high school team, which gained recognition as the first to defeat a collegiate basketball team; and WHEREAS, Following her marriage to Matthew Greer in 1941, the couple moved to Mineola, where they have been valued residents for more than half a century; Mrs. Greer spent many years as a homemaker, raising her four beloved children, Cleottice, Matthew, Ruby, and Ronald; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Greer eventually lent her famous culinary skills to McFarland High School, where she was employed for many years as a cook; McFarland alumni still recall her famous peanut butter cookies and peach cobbler, the latter of which today makes regular appearances at the McFarland Community Center to the delight of all; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Greer later decided to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse, and with perseverance and determination, she earned her certification as an LVN; she went on to work at Mineola General Hospital, where the kindness and generosity she bestowed on her patients are still remembered; and WHEREAS, Now retired, Mrs. Greer stays busy with her weekly quilting circle and bingo games and enjoys visits with her cherished family, which has grown to include son-in-law Eddie and daughter-in-law Danice, along with eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild; and WHEREAS, Cleo Greer is an inspiration to all those fortunate enough to share in the richness of her life, and her 84th birthday provides a welcome opportunity to honor her; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Cleo Greer on her 84th birthday and extend to her best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mrs. Greer as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
