H.R. No. 728
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Diamond Hill-Jarvis High School in Fort Worth has
been recognized as one of the top 100 public high schools in the
United States in a 2006 study conducted by Newsweek magazine; and
WHEREAS, The school's impressive ranking results from the
superior job it is doing in preparing students for college; by
emphasizing advanced-level classes and testing, Diamond
Hill-Jarvis is grooming young men and women to succeed as scholars
on the university level; the success of these measures is clear: in
2005, more than one of every five graduating students at Diamond
Hill-Jarvis received a college scholarship; and
WHEREAS, These accomplishments are even more impressive
given that, on the whole, the students at this high-achieving
school do not hail from affluent families; in fact, the Newsweek
study indicates that Diamond Hill-Jarvis, with almost 80 percent of
its students eligible for the free and reduced price lunch program,
has more economically challenged pupils than any other school in
the top 100; the inspired educators at this Fort Worth high school
motivate students to excel, and their can-do attitude and
innovative educational methods have created a place of learning
that ranks with the best in America; and
WHEREAS, Preparing this country's youth for the challenges of
the future is a task of the utmost importance, and in finding a
successful means of accomplishing this most demanding task, the
Diamond Hill-Jarvis teachers and administrators are making an
enormous contribution to the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby honor Diamond Hill-Jarvis
High School on being named one of the top 100 public high schools in
the United States and extend to all affiliated with the school
sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
