R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Felix Valenzuela was recently accorded a great honor
by being chosen to serve as a grand marshal of the Cinco de Mayo
parade in Alpine; and
WHEREAS, The theme of this year's event paid tribute to
vaqueros and the vital role they have played in the area's rich
history; and
WHEREAS, Chosen for his lasting contributions to the Hispanic
community, Mr. Valenzuela has been working as a vaquero for more
than 50 years, and has two grandsons among the many other cowboys he
has trained in the complex and varied aspects of ranch work;
moreover, he was a skilled rodeo competitor in roping and saddle
bronc riding and was a fixture at Big Bend events throughout the
1960s; and
WHEREAS, The vaquero has contributed immeasurably to the
rodeo and ranching heritage of West Texas, and it is indeed fitting
that Mr. Valenzuela be recognized for his career; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Felix
Valenzuela on being named a grand marshal of the 2006 Cinco de Mayo
parade in Alpine and extend to him best wishes for the future; and,
be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Valenzuela as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
