H.R. No. 732
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, United States Marine Sergeant Matt Scarborough has
served his country with distinction in Operation Iraqi Freedom, and
he is a source of great pride to the Dripping Springs community and
to the State of Texas; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Scarborough has served three tours of duty
in Iraq as a member of the Weapons Company, 3rd Battalion, 5th
Marine Regiment; throughout his time overseas, he demonstrated an
unwavering commitment to his mission and he courageously saved the
lives of two of his fellow Marines during an insurgent attack, a
heroic act that earned him the prestigious Bronze Star; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of Dripping Springs High School, Sergeant
Scarborough joined the Marines in 2002; he hopes to pursue higher
education following his military service; and
WHEREAS, Americans owe a profound debt of gratitude to
Sergeant Scarborough and to all of the country's military
personnel, for they are called on to bear great, often
unimaginable, burdens, and they render service and sacrifice that
are truly beyond measure; and
WHEREAS, Through his unfaltering devotion to duty, honor, and
this nation, Matt Scarborough embodies the highest ideals of the
U.S. armed forces, and it is indeed a pleasure to pay tribute to
this fine young Texan; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby honor U.S. Marine Sergeant
Matt Scarborough for his exemplary commitment to his family, his
state, and his nation and extend to him heartfelt best wishes for
success and happiness in the coming years; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Sergeant Scarborough as an expression of high regard
by the Texas House of Representatives.
