R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Guillermo "Willie" Serrano is deserving of highest
commendation for his exceptional service to his state and nation
during World War II; and
WHEREAS, This Southwest Texas native answered his country's
call in the dark and uncertain days of World War II by enlisting in
the United States Army at the age of 17; and
WHEREAS, A member of B Company, 44th Engineers Regiment,
Combat Rifleman Serrano displayed uncommon valor while fighting in
the Battle of the Bulge and was wounded in action in December 1944;
captured by German troops, he went on to spend nearly four months in
Stalag V-6, where he experienced the horrors of living as a prisoner
of war before being liberated by British soldiers in April 1945; and
WHEREAS, The generation of Americans that fought during World
War II preserved this nation's freedom for decades to come, and
Willie Serrano is an inspirational example of the bravery and
dedication to duty that were required to assure victory in that
conflict; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend Guillermo "Willie"
Serrano for his service to his country and extend to him best wishes
for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Serrano as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
