R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, One of the Lone Star State's greatest assets is the Hispanic community and Hispanic men and women entrepreneurs; and WHEREAS, Texas has more than 320,000 Hispanic businesses, which collectively represent over 20 percent of all businesses in the state and generate more than $42 billion in sales annually; and WHEREAS, The Texas Association of Mexican-American Chambers of Commerce serves as the leading advocate for Hispanic businesses in Texas and promotes the growth, development, and success of local Hispanic chambers of commerce; and WHEREAS, Founded in 1975, TAMACC is the first such state organization to be established in this country; it was originally composed of a handful of forward-looking Hispanic small-business owners, whose goal was to advance both their own success and that of other Hispanic entrepreneurs; over the years, the organization has developed a focus on promoting business leadership, creating economic opportunity, and advocating for the Hispanic business community; and WHEREAS, Today, the association consists of 23 local Hispanic chambers of commerce, representing more than 13,000 Hispanic business members from a wide spectrum of industries throughout Texas; TAMACC is recognized as the most prominent and influential state Hispanic chamber association in the nation and one of the most powerful Hispanic organizations in the state; and WHEREAS, Through its Corporate Partnership Program, TAMACC works closely with major corporations to increase business opportunities between those corporations and Hispanic businesses; and WHEREAS, Each year, more than 3,000 businessmen and businesswomen converge at the TAMACC annual convention to establish new business relationships, meet with potential business partners, and attend the business exposition; the 2006 convention and expo are being held July 26-29 in El Paso; and WHEREAS, TAMACC provides service of immeasurable value to Hispanic businesses in Texas, and it is a pleasure to recognize this outstanding organization for its vision, dedication, and dynamic leadership; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend the Texas Association of Mexican-American Chambers of Commerce on its mission to promote Hispanic chambers of commerce and businesses in Texas, and that it commemorate the 31st annual TAMACC Convention and Business Expo; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the association as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
