H.R. No. 745


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Amanda Kelley of Abilene celebrates her 50th birthday on June 1, 2006, and this auspicious occasion provides a fitting opportunity to recognize her for her many accomplishments; and WHEREAS, Born in Clarksville, Tennessee, Mrs. Kelley graduated from Abilene Christian High School and attended David Lipscomb University; she continued her education at Abilene Christian University, earning a bachelor of science degree in education and completing 15 hours of postgraduate work; and WHEREAS, This notable educator embarked on her career in 1978 as a sixth-grade science and physical education teacher at Phillip Nolan Intermediate in the Sweetwater ISD; she was also a substitute teacher for San Angelo ISD; in 1980, she joined Abilene ISD as a social studies and science teacher at Fair Park Elementary, and five years later she became a science and math instructor at Mann Middle School, where today she continues to help set young Texans on their paths to bright and rewarding futures; and WHEREAS, In addition to her classroom experience, Mrs. Kelley has also made significant contributions to the lives of young people by participating in the Mentoring Industrious Minds and Educating Students program and coaching citywide girls' basketball; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Kelley's dedication to her students is only surpassed by her love for her family; she married Steven Lewis Kelley in July 1976, and their union has been blessed with three sons, Casey Heath Kelley, Chad Headrick Kelley, and Clay Harding Kelley; and WHEREAS, In reflecting on the past 50 years, Mrs. Kelley may take great pride in the knowledge that she has played a meaningful, positive role in the lives of her students and her family, for whom she is a source of tremendous inspiration and pride; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Amanda Kelley on her 50th birthday and extend to her warmest best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mrs. Kelley as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
