R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The members and coaches of the CGA Twisters cheer
squads from the Coastal Bend area had impressive showings at the
2006 American Cheer Power National Championship competition held in
San Antonio in February 2006; and
WHEREAS, Ably coached by Felipe and Debbie Salazar, the five
squads demonstrated great sportsmanship, agility, and strength in
their various routines; and
WHEREAS, The preschool age Show Team earned participation
awards for their performance, and the Mini Team, kindergarteners to
second graders, placed fourth out of 16 squads; also competing were
the Junior Squad Novice and Junior Advanced teams, fifth through
ninth graders, who earned seventh and sixth places, respectively;
and
WHEREAS, Rounding out this exceptional group of athletes were
the members of the Elementary Squad, girls aged seven to 10, who
earned the coveted title of 2006 American Cheer Power National
Champions; their victory earned them the right to compete at the
Final Destination world championships in Baltimore, Maryland,
where they earned second place out of the nation's 10 best teams;
the team previously earned championship honors at the 2005 Holiday
Open Championships, Texas Open State Championship, and Small Gym
Championship; and
WHEREAS, Through skilled coaching, unwavering focus, and a
dedication to excellence, the CGA Twisters have achieved
extraordinary success in their athletic performances and they are
most deserving of special recognition; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate the coaches
and members of the CGA Twisters for their successes at the 2006
American Cheer Power National Championship competition and extend
to them best wishes for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the CGA Twisters as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
