R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Matthew McConaughey has been named People
magazine's Sexiest Man Alive for the year 2005; and
WHEREAS, A native of Uvalde, Mr. McConaughey moved to
Longview as a youth, and graduated in 1988 from Longview High
School, where he served on the student council, was on the staff of
the newspaper and literary magazine, played on the golf and tennis
teams, and was voted "Most Handsome" by his senior class; and
WHEREAS, Mr. McConaughey's charms have now been embraced by
moviegoers the world over, and he is justly celebrated as an actor
of range and resourcefulness; and
WHEREAS, He first gained widespread attention with a
memorable performance in Dazed and Confused, a role that grew from
three scenes to 300 lines of dialogue when Texas director Richard
Linklater encouraged Mr. McConaughey to improvise new material; and
WHEREAS, In the years since, starring roles in films such as
Lone Star, A Time to Kill, Contact, Amistad, The Wedding Planner,
and Failure to Launch have secured his stature as one of Hollywood's
preeminent leading men; and
WHEREAS, Mr. McConaughey is also known for his generosity of
spirit, which most recently found expression in his efforts to
assist evacuees displaced by Hurricane Katrina; and
WHEREAS, An avid Longhorn fan, Matthew McConaughey has
remained loyal to his Texas roots, and his success in the
entertainment industry is a testament to his determination and his
talent; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Matthew
McConaughey on being named People magazine's 2005 Sexiest Man Alive
and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued achievement;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. McConaughey as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
