R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Those Texans who live for a century or longer are among the Lone Star State's most valuable resources, and their wisdom and experience immeasurably enrich the lives of their fellow citizens; and WHEREAS, Marcial Zavala is one such individual, and he was honored at the 9th Annual Centenarian Program held at the Marble Arch in Mercedes, an event that was organized by the Social Security Administration and the Area Agency on Aging; and WHEREAS, Born June 30, 1906, in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, to Antonio and Lucia Zavala, Mr. Zavala began working at the age of 14 taking water to the workers in the mines in San Luis Potosi; he later worked in the factories in Pharr, Texas, for many years; and WHEREAS, Mr. Zavala married Isabel Perez, and they are the parents of two sons; over the years, he has shared in the joy of welcoming nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren into the family; and WHEREAS, In celebrating men and women whose lives span 100 years or more, we pay tribute to an inspiring group of senior citizens and their vital connection to our shared history; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Marcial Zavala as an honoree of the 9th Annual Centenarian Program and extend to him sincere best wishes; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Zavala as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
