H.R. No. 763
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of Thomas Purcell McNair, Jr., on May 3,
2006, deeply saddened the family and many friends of this beloved
gentleman and renowned horseman; and
WHEREAS, Born in Lakeland, Florida, Tom McNair graduated from
Randolph-Henry High School in Charlotte Court House, Virginia,
where he was an all-state basketball and football player; after
serving in the U.S. Air Force for four years, he attended
Hampden-Sydney College and later studied at Virginia Tech; and
WHEREAS, Mr. McNair worked for 23 years as a manager-trainer
for Glennloch Arabian Farms, establishing himself as one of the
premier Arabian horsemen in the world and a recognized expert who
freely shared his extensive knowledge with others; he garnered
hundreds of regional, national, and international championships
and is perhaps most widely remembered for his five national wins and
numerous other championships with one of the top-winning Egyptian
show horses of all time, *SAKR+++; and
WHEREAS, Named the 1985 American Horse Show Association
Horseman of the Year, Mr. McNair received lifetime achievement
awards from the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, the Pyramid
Society, and the Arabian Professional and Amateur Horseman's
Association; moreover, at the 2005 National Arabian Horse Show, he
received a lifetime achievement award for his judging career, and
he was selected to be in the first group of inductees into the
American Horse Association Judges Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, Tom McNair's passion for horses was surpassed only
by his love for his family and friends, and this wise and generous
teacher will forever be remembered for the lessons he shared that
touched the lives of those in the horse community and beyond; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
Thomas Purcell McNair, Jr., and extend sincere sympathy to the
members of his family: to his wife, Sylvia Jones McNair; to his
son, Daniel McNair and his wife, Linda; to his daughter, Maggie
McNair Huggins and her husband, Ben; to his brother, E. Chandler
McNair and his wife, Claudia; to his grandchildren; to his former
wife, Rhita McNair; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be
it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Tom McNair.
