R E S O L U T I O N
	WHEREAS, Vealantha Spivey is being honored by her alma mater, 
Phillis Wheatley High School, with a 2006 Phillis Wheatley Award on 
May 20; and
	WHEREAS, A well-known entrepreneur in Houston and the Fifth 
Ward, Ms. Spivey graduated from Phillis Wheatley in 1970 and went on 
to pursue studies in cosmetology at Espanola Beauty School; she 
then opened her first business, Vealantha Spivey Beauty Salon, and 
followed that endeavor with management of her family-owned 
business, Vivian's; and
	WHEREAS, Ms. Spivey has since opened two additional 
successful businesses in the community, Adrian's Burger Bar and 
Adrian's Culinary Creations, and the popular burger eatery has been 
honored in the Houston Press with a "Best of Houston" award for five 
consecutive years; and
	WHEREAS, A corporate sponsor for both Wheatley and Nat Q. 
Henderson Elementary School, Ms. Spivey has benefited countless 
young Houstonians with her generosity; and
	WHEREAS, Phillis Wheatley High School counts among its 
graduates many who have made far-reaching contributions in behalf 
of their fellow citizens, and through her service, Vealantha Spivey 
is joining this notable group; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas 
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Vealantha 
Spivey on her receipt of a 2006 Phillis Wheatley Award and extend to 
her best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it 
further
	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 
prepared for Ms. Spivey as an expression of high regard by the Texas 
House of Representatives.
