R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, John A. Murray III is being honored by his alma mater, Phillis Wheatley High School, with a 2006 Phillis Wheatley Award on May 20; and WHEREAS, A gospel music instrumentalist and recording artist, John Murray began playing the saxophone at the age of seven; his celebrated abilities have earned him invitations to perform at such prestigious venues as the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and he has been invited to collaborate with a number of well-known gospel artists; he is now pastor of the Refreshing Church, which he recently founded, and has also used his music and the experience he gained as a former police officer to become a much sought after motivational speaker; and WHEREAS, Phillis Wheatley High School counts among its graduates many who have made far-reaching contributions in behalf of their fellow citizens, and through his service, John A. Murray III is joining this notable group; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate John A. Murray III on his receipt of a 2006 Phillis Wheatley Award and extend to him best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Murray as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
