R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, James Prince is being honored by his alma mater, Phillis Wheatley High School, with a 2006 Phillis Wheatley Award on May 20; and WHEREAS, Mr. Prince's success in the business world is rooted in his desire to help others; in the mid-1980s, when he was trying to convince two neighborhood youths to stay in school, he promised to help them get started in the music business after they graduated, and to that end, he created Rap-A-Lot Records, which has sold millions of albums over the past two decades; and WHEREAS, A second business, Prince Boxing, has also proven successful, and Mr. Prince's adept management of professional fighters garnered him the Boxing Manager of the Year Award from the Las Vegas Boxing Commission in 2004; this venture, too, has allowed him to give back to the community, with the nonprofit Prince Boxing Complex in Houston offering recreational programs for disadvantaged inner-city youth; most recently, this innovative entrepreneur has launched a company that he hopes will help people protect themselves against AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases; and WHEREAS, Phillis Wheatley High School counts among its graduates many who have made far-reaching contributions in behalf of their fellow citizens, and through his service, James Prince is joining this notable group; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate James Prince on his receipt of a 2006 Phillis Wheatley Award and extend to him best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Prince as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
