R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Wiley Henry is being honored by his alma mater, Phillis Wheatley High School, with a 2006 Phillis Wheatley Award on May 20; and WHEREAS, A lifelong Fifth Ward community activist, Mr. Henry serves as director of the community center in the Fifth Ward; he graduated from Wheatley High School in 1963 and enjoyed a prominent career with the Houston ISD as a teacher and coach with Jeff Davis, Kashmere, Wheatley High School, and Yates High School; and WHEREAS, Mr. Henry has also made significant contributions through his work as assistant chief of special projects for the Texas Department of Community Affairs and center administrator for the City of Houston; he has played a positive role in his community through his tireless efforts as a Houston ISD school board member and as chairman of the Houston Community College board of trustees as well as through his work for a myriad of community service organizations; and WHEREAS, Phillis Wheatley High School counts among its graduates many who have made far-reaching contributions in behalf of their fellow citizens, and through his service, Wiley Henry is joining this notable group; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Wiley Henry on his receipt of a 2006 Phillis Wheatley Award and extend to him best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Henry as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
