R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Jimmy Jones is retiring from his position as principal of Lamar High School in 2006, bringing to a close an exceptional career in education that has spanned 36 years; and WHEREAS, Before joining the staff of Lamar as vice principal, Mr. Jones held tenures as an art instructor and coach at Hutcheson Junior High School and Sam Houston High School, later serving as a teacher and part-time administrator at Bowie High School; his dedication and experience have earned him the respect of his colleagues and students, who admire his wisdom, his leadership, and his ability to inspire high personal standards in others; and WHEREAS, This notable Texan has done much for Lamar High School during his decade of service to the institution; among his many accomplishments are his creation of a scholarship fund in honor of previous principals, promotion of Lamar's Legacy of Literature, which brought in more than 500 books for Pregnancy Education Parenting students, special education students, and elementary students, development of the first Freshman Vision Camp in the city to help incoming freshman orient themselves to high school life, and support of the school's ropes course and Garden/Monarch Research project; and WHEREAS, In addition to performing his education-related activities, Mr. Jones has benefited the wider community through his leadership with such notable groups as Leadership Arlington and the North Arlington Rotary Club, which he serves as a member of the board; he is also a valued congregant and elder of his congregation at Rush Creek Christian Church; and WHEREAS, Jimmy Jones exemplifies the highest standards of his challenging profession, and it is indeed a pleasure to pay tribute to him as he prepares to embark on the next chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby honor Principal Jimmy Jones of Lamar High School on the occasion of his retirement and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success in all of his endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Jones as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
