R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Honorable Kent Grusendorf has rendered dedicated service to his constituents and to the people of Texas during his nearly 20 years in the Texas Legislature; and WHEREAS, This distinguished Texan has represented District 94 in the Texas House of Representatives since 1987; he has served as a member of the House Committee on Public Education for all but one of his 10 terms in that chamber and as its chairman since 2003; in the 78th Legislature, he also chaired the select committee on public school finance, and in 2005, he chaired the select committee on public education reform; and WHEREAS, Representative Grusendorf's deep interest in educational policy preceded his election to the legislature; from 1982 to 1984, he served on the Texas State Board of Education, and while a member of that body he helped to rewrite the Texas Education Code, to make the public school system more accountable; and WHEREAS, His other committee assignments in the Texas House have included ways and means, financial institutions, elections, transportation, corrections, redistricting, and human services; moreover, from 2003 to 2005, he served as vice chair of the House Committee on Pensions and Investments; and WHEREAS, An astute businessman and respected civic leader, Representative Grusendorf has served on the boards of the Arlington Chamber of Commerce, the Texas Association of Business, the Arlington Classics Academy, and The University of Texas at Arlington Alumni Association, as well as on the advisory boards of Junior Achievement, the Arlington Art Association, the Arlington Night Shelter, the Boy Scouts of America, and the National Center for Public Analysis; and WHEREAS, Among the awards bestowed on Representative Grusendorf have been accolades from the Texas Association of Business, Arlington Chamber of Commerce, Texas Chamber of Commerce, Young Conservatives of Texas, American Legislative Exchange Council, Free Market Foundation of Texas, Association of Texas Professional Educators, and Suburban Schools Association; and WHEREAS, Kent Grusendorf has brought to his work in the house of representatives an unflagging commitment to public service, and through his legislative leadership, he has touched the lives of Texans across the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend the Honorable Kent Grusendorf for his notable tenure in the Texas House of Representatives and extend to him sincere appreciation for his deep devotion to this state; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Representative Grusendorf as an expression of high regard by his colleagues in the Texas House of Representatives.
