R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The family, friends, and many admirers of Pete Adams
of Blossom were greatly saddened by his passing at the age of 88,
and we join them in mourning their loss; and
WHEREAS, Born October 14, 1917, Mr. Adams grew up in
Louisiana and Arkansas and earned a bachelor's degree from the
University of Arkansas in 1940; and
WHEREAS, He served with the U.S. Army in the Pacific theater
of operations during World War II; after a brief stint in civilian
life, he reenlisted in the army in 1948 and was sent to Japan, where
he worked in military intelligence; and
WHEREAS, It was during an assignment as ROTC detail commander
in Council Bluffs, Iowa, that he first met Lucille Margaret Madden,
whom he married on October 11, 1957, and the two enjoyed a long and
happy union until her passing; and
WHEREAS, In 1966, Mr. Adams retired with the rank of
lieutenant colonel after two decades of service in the military,
and he subsequently worked for the Dallas Police Department, the
U.S. Postal Service, and the federal housing department; and
WHEREAS, An active participant in politics and government, he
was elected treasurer of Collin County on a platform that promised
the abolition of the office, and his many years of service to the
Republican Party were acknowledged when he and his wife were
honored with the party's John McVeigh Award; and
WHEREAS, Though saddened by his passing, the family and
friends of Pete Adams may find comfort in knowing that he lived a
full and generous life and touched the lives of countless others
with his intelligence, his kindness, and his generosity; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
Pete Adams and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family:
to his daughters, Sally Beasley and Elizabeth Driver; to his
stepchildren, Patricia Housel and Representative Jerry Madden; to
his nine grandchildren and his great-grandchildren; and to his
other relatives and friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Pete Adams.
