R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Honorable Jim Solis is retiring from the Texas House of Representatives after a 14-year tenure as the voice of the constituents of District 38, and it is indeed appropriate to reflect on his notable service at this time; and WHEREAS, Elected to represent the citizens of Cameron County in 1992, Representative Solis currently serves as a member of the Committees on the Judiciary and Public Health; and WHEREAS, During his illustrious legislative career, he has chaired the House Committee on Economic Development, co-chaired the Committee on Binational Health Benefit Plan Coverage, served as chair of the budget and oversight subcommittee of the House Committee of Judicial Affairs, and served as vice chair of the Committee on Higher Education; in addition, he has served as a member of the House Committees on Appropriations, Statutory Probate Courts Jurisdiction, Criminal Jurisprudence, Judicial Affairs, and Transportation; and WHEREAS, This esteemed legislator has been a member of the House Mexican American Legislative Caucus, Legislative Study Group, National Labor Caucus of State Legislators, and International Good Neighbor Council, to name but a few of the organizations that have benefited from his participation; and WHEREAS, Representative Solis has devoted his tenure in the house to expanding and improving public and higher education opportunities, enhancing the workforce and transportation infrastructure of South Texas, ensuring access to quality health care for residents in the region, providing for economic development in the Rio Grande Valley, and working to ensure that tougher penalties are imposed on criminals; and WHEREAS, Throughout the years, Representative Solis has drawn support from his close-knit family, including his wife, Diana Solis, and his sons, Jose Santiago "Trey" Solis III and Diego Andres Solis; and WHEREAS, With retirement on the horizon, our esteemed colleague can look forward to spending more time with his loved ones, and he can take pride in his efforts as a state representative and community leader; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend the Honorable Jim Solis for his many years of dedicated service to his constituents and to the citizens of Texas and extend to him best wishes for happiness and success in the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Representative Solis as an expression of high regard by his colleagues in the Texas House of Representatives.
