R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Students from the Salado High School Academic Team
achieved outstanding success at the 2006 State Academic Meet held
in Austin in May; and
WHEREAS, The team placed third overall while competing
against schools from across the Lone Star State; representing
Salado High, senior Kristen Singleton earned the championship in
literary criticism and freshman Tyler Cook took first place in
persuasive speaking; and
WHEREAS, Demonstrating a mastery of many skills, Salado
students qualified for state in 14 contests; in addition to
literary criticism and persuasive speaking, categories included
one-act play, number sense, mathematics, calculator, spelling,
poetry, prose, Lincoln-Douglas debate, editorial writing, headline
writing, ready writing, and current events; and
WHEREAS, Performing at the highest level in UIL competition
takes not only the sharpest young minds but also countless hours of
study and preparation, and these talented teens have demonstrated
an unwavering dedication to academic excellence; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate the Salado
High School Academic Team on its achievements at the 2006 State
Academic Meet and extend to its members sincere best wishes for the
future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
