CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the Stratford High School Elks, who recently won the
Class 1A state football championship; and
WHEREAS, The Elks won their second Class 1A title since 2000,
coming from behind in the fourth quarter of the championship game to
defeat the Big Sandy Wildcats by a score of 21-20; the Elks
controlled the running game and displayed a stifling defense to
outlast the Wildcats; and
WHEREAS, These young athletes have demonstrated great talent
and perseverance throughout the school year, ending the season with
a record of 15-1; and
WHEREAS, Senior team members Brady Bell, Caleb Brown, Andrew
Correll, Case Crabtree, Brandon Davis, Jerold Frizzell, Josh
Lanning, Gustavo Rosales, Kelby Smith, Walter Spurlock, and Connor
Vincent can take great pride in their performance; and
WHEREAS, Other members of the championship team are Martin
Beltran, Hunter Buckles, Cory Carter, Manuel Chavoya, Brant
Cummings, Connor Esparza, Jeffrey Frizzell, Michael Frizzell, Sandro
Gomez, Daniel Hays, Kaleb Horsford, Scott Hudson, Pablo Ibarra,
Clayton Johnson, Craig Kautz, Justin Lanning, Jake Lawrence, Jayton
Lawrence, Jonathan Licon, Jesus Lopez, Chandler Lutes, Hector
Marquez, Alex Martinez, Daniel Nusz, Rodolfo Portillo, Julio
Ramirez, Brent Reed, Angel Resendes, Gilbert Reta, Joey Reta, Eric
Riffe, Jorge Robles, Nelson Rodriguez,Steven Rueda, Eric Ruiz,
James Smith, John Tenorio, Servando Torres, Armando Valenzuela,
Harrison Walden, and Dillynn Williams; and
WHEREAS, The Elks have developed exceptional teamwork and
discipline under the superior leadership and expertise of the head
coach, Eddie Metcalf, and the assistant coaches, Jim Hand, David
Sutterfield, Mark Keener, Lance Horsford, and Jim Bob Brown, and
with the guidance of team manager Austin Riffe; and
WHEREAS, The City of Stratford can take pride in the
Stratford High School Elks for their hard work, their impressive
athleticism, and their outstanding sportsmanship; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That the 79th Legislature of the State of Texas,
3rd Called Session, hereby commend the Stratford High School Elks
for their victorious season and congratulate them on winning the
Class 1A state football championship; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for the
team as an expression of esteem from the Texas Legislature.
