SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 2
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the NonStop program, which is celebrating its official launch in Amarillo on April 21, 2006; and WHEREAS, The United States is experiencing an increase of childhood obesity in epidemic proportions; many obesity-related diseases, such as diabetes and heart disease, that previously affected only adults, are now affecting large numbers of children; and WHEREAS, The NonStop program, developed by Strategic Healthcare Initiative, is an innovative, web-based program that promotes health and physical fitness for children; and WHEREAS, The Coalition of Health Services, a nonprofit organization serving the northern Texas Panhandle, recognized the serious consequences of childhood obesity and partnered with the Strategic Healthcare Initiative to bring the free program to the children of the Texas Panhandle; and WHEREAS, Increased physical activity and better nutrition for children are changes that can reverse the trend towards obesity; the NonStop program will encourage physical fitness and promote healthy eating habits to help the children of the Panhandle enjoy the benefits of good health; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend the Coalition of Health Services and Strategic Healthcare Initiative in their promotion of the NonStop program for its meritorious service to the children of our state and extend best wishes for a celebratory launch in the Texas Panhandle; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
