SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 3
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
citizens of Moore County in honoring and commemorating the 19
lives lost at the 1956 Shamrock McKee Plant fire by dedicating
Station 19 to their memory; and
WHEREAS, At 7:00 a.m. on July 29, 1956, an explosion rocked
the Shamrock Oil and Gas Company's McKee refinery near Sunray and
Dumas; 10 firemen and nine plant employees lost their lives in
the blast; and
WHEREAS, Named in honor of those 19 men, Station 19 is a
new, state-of-the-art facility with the latest in firefighting
technology; it will serve as an enduring memorial to the tragic
loss of 50 years ago; and
WHEREAS, Station 19 opens April 19, 2006, on the site of
the blast that claimed those 19 lives; its mission will be
to save lives and to ensure that the tragic events of 1956 are
never repeated; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby honor the memory
of 19 fallen heroes and commemorate their lives on the occasion
of the dedication of Station 19; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as a
memento from the Texas Senate.
