SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 26
WHEREAS, The beautiful beaches of Galveston represent a
renowned recreational resource for the citizens of this state and
for visitors from around the world; and
WHEREAS, Galvestonians and tourists alike flock to these
beaches each year to participate in a variety of enjoyable
outdoor activities, including swimming, fishing, body surfing,
and sunbathing; and
WHEREAS, The aquatic environment, however, presents an
array of dangers, but these potential perils can be effectively
managed through increased public awareness and the vigilance of
professional lifeguards; and
WHEREAS, Beachgoers should follow these simple rules:
never swim alone, always swim near a lifeguard, never drink
alcohol before swimming, respect the power of the surf, and learn
to swim; and
WHEREAS, To increase public safety, an annual reminder of
the joys and hazards associated with the aquatic environment is
most appropriate at the commencement of the busy summer beach
season; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby recognize May 22
through 29, 2006, as National Beach Safety Week in Galveston and
commend the many individuals who contribute to the safety of
beachgoers during the summer beach season.
