SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 29
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to pay
tribute to Irene Louise "Mitzie" Norman on the grand occasion of
her 80th birthday; and
WHEREAS, Irene Louise Hughes was born on April 27, 1926, in
Little Rock, Arkansas, to William Walter and Vivian Trafton Hughes;
her father called her his Little Mitty Mitz, creating a nickname
that would stay with her for the rest of her life; she moved with
her family to Houston and graduated from San Jacinto High School
in 1943; and
WHEREAS, She became a registered nurse in 1946 and was
renowned for her warm and compassionate nursing skills; during
her 46-year career, she worked with some of Houston's finest
physicians and assisted with the delivery of many babies,
including her nephew, Kim Brimer; she worked for Dr. Hiram Arnold,
a noted obstetrician and gynecologist, for 25 years; and
WHEREAS, On January 21, 1948, she and her husband,
Donald Y. Wilson II, welcomed into the world her beloved son,
Donald Yearnsley Wilson III, who became an accomplished actor on
Broadway and in film before his untimely death; in 1958, she
married Wiley Foster "Chuck" Norman, Jr., and on May 5, 1959, the
couple became the proud parents of Deborah Louise Norman, who has
followed in her mother's professional footsteps; and
WHEREAS, Mitzie Norman truly loves life and enthusiastically
welcomes each new day; she is a devoted mother and grandmother
who takes great pride in her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and
Kevin Deska, her daughter-in-law, Judy Blye Wilson, and her
grandsons, Eric Meadows and Mark Deska; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby recognize
Irene Louise Norman as a treasured citizen of this state and extend
to her best wishes for a wonderful 80th birthday celebration; and,
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her as a memento of this special day.
