SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 36
In Memory
of
Theodore Allen Wilson
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas pays tribute to the
life of retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Theodore Allen Wilson,
who died March 15, 2006, at the age of 86; and
WHEREAS, Theodore Wilson was a member of the renowned
Tuskegee Airmen, who served their country with courage and honor
during World War II; he was born in Gloucester, Virginia; and
WHEREAS, He earned a bachelor's degree in sociology at
Virginia Union University and a master's degree in business at
the University of Dayton in Ohio; and
WHEREAS, He was inducted into the United States Army at
the beginning of World War II; he was transferred to the aviation
cadet training center for African Americans at Tuskegee Institute
in Alabama, where he was commissioned a second lieutenant; and
WHEREAS, He flew the P-40 Warhawk and the P-51 Mustang
fighter planes protecting bomber aircraft in 60 missions over
Europe during World War II and saw action again during the
Korean War as part of the 13th Bomb Squadron, flying 39 combat
missions over Korea and Japan and earning a Bronze Star; and
WHEREAS, After he retired from the air force in 1968, he
worked for Bank of America and rose to the position of assistant
vice president before retiring in 1984; and
WHEREAS, As a Tuskegee Airman, Colonel Theodore Wilson has
a significant place in the history of this country; noted for his
warmth and kindness, this distinguished gentleman will long be
remembered for his dedication to service and his wise and generous
counsel; he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and
he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by his
family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby extend sincere
condolences to the bereaved family of Theodore Allen Wilson: his
wife of 60 years, Doris Scott Wilson; his daughter, Suzanne Woodard;
his son, Theodore A. Wilson III; his sister, Margaret Thomas; and
his three grandchildren; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do
so in memory of Theodore Allen Wilson.
