SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 51
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize April 25, 2006, as Volunteer Day and honor the many volunteers who through goodwill and good works make a significant difference in the lives of their fellow citizens; and WHEREAS, One of the most defining characteristics of Americans is our sense of duty to one another and the institution of volunteerism; during times of war and natural disasters, our citizens are quick to provide relief to those in need; and WHEREAS, Every day there are instances of human need to which our country's quiet heroes respond with strength and vigor; these citizens provide their time, talent, and resources to help others; they give food to soup kitchens, clothes to shelters, love to endangered children, and counsel to those who have been abused; and WHEREAS, For 25 years, the Volunteer Center of North Texas has celebrated the efforts of the community's finest volunteers by hosting the Hearts of Hope Awards in Dallas County and the Volunteer of the Year Awards in Collin County; and WHEREAS, The Volunteer Center will honor the North Texas community's outstanding volunteers and unsung heroes at a luncheon and awards ceremony that will take place in the Plano Centre on April 25, 2006; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend volunteers in the North Texas area for their many contributions to the citizens of Collin and Dallas counties and citizens across the state for their leadership and service and recognize April 25, 2006, as Volunteer Day; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
