SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 72
In Memory
of
Johnny J. Peralez
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and commemorates the life of Sergeant Johnny J. Peralez, Jr., who died January 5, 2006, at the age of 25, while serving his country in Iraq; and WHEREAS, Sergeant Peralez was serving with the 3rd Battalion, 16th Field Artillery, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, based at Fort Hood, Texas, when he was called to a second tour of duty in Iraq; and WHEREAS, Johnny graduated from Falfurrias High School in 1998, where he played on the tennis team, played alto saxophone in the band, and performed in one-act plays; and WHEREAS, Johnny enlisted in the United States Army a year after his graduation from high school and became a combat medic; he served in Germany and Kosovo before becoming part of the first contingent of American troops in Afghanistan after September 11, 2001; and WHEREAS, After serving his first tour of duty in Iraq, Johnny announced to his family that he had found his calling and had decided to make the army his career; and WHEREAS, Johnny will be remembered for his appealing sense of humor, his genuine concern for others, and his steadfast resolve and patriotism; the State of Texas and the nation are truly grateful for his service and his sacrifice; and WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, Johnny gave generously to others, and his kindness, loyalty, and love of life were an inspiration to all who knew him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Sergeant Johnny J. Peralez, Jr.: his parents, Virginia Garcia and Johnny J. Peralez, Sr.; his sister, Nina Kristine Peralez; his brothers, Romeo Villa and Jessie Rene Peralez; and his grandparents, Carmen Arellano, Pedro Vasquez, and José and Tomasa Peralez; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the members of his family as an expression of profound sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Johnny Peralez, Jr. Duncan ________________________________ President of the Senate I hereby certify that the above Resolution was adopted by the Senate on April 27, 2006, by a rising vote. ________________________________ Secretary of the Senate ________________________________ Member, Texas Senate
