SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 73
In Memory
of
Benjamin Thomas Britt
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
commemorates the life of First Lieutenant Benjamin Thomas Britt,
who died December 22, 2005, at the age of 24, while serving his
country in Iraq; and
WHEREAS, Benjamin T. Britt was born April 20, 1981, in
Amarillo; in 1999, he graduated valedictorian of his class at
Wheeler High School, where he participated in several sports; he
was an All-State football player and achieved success in the
University Interscholastic League's academic competition; and
WHEREAS, He attended Trinity University, where he played
football for one year; he graduated in the top of his class at the
United States Military Academy at West Point, where he played on
the Army rugby team for four years; and
WHEREAS, He was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division at
Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and had completed the Airborne Assault
and Ranger schools; he was a platoon leader and was deployed to
Iraq in October, 2005; and
WHEREAS, First Lieutenant Britt was an honorable and
courageous patriot who died fighting for his country; for his
service and his sacrifice, this state and this nation are
eternally grateful; and
WHEREAS, He was a devoted son, grandson, and brother, and
he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by his
family and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the
life of Benjamin Thomas Britt and extend sincere condolences to
his bereaved family: his parents, David Britt, Jr., and
Mary Britt; his brothers, Jake and Josh Britt; his grandparents,
David and Paula Britt and Mottis and Vivian Albers; and his
fiancée, Megan Selmon; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do
so in memory of Benjamin Thomas Britt.
