SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 78
In Memory
of
Clayton Welch Henson
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
of Stanton and Midland in mourning the loss of Private First Class
Clayton Welch Henson, who lost his life on April 17, 2004, at the
age of 20, while serving his country in Iraq; and
WHEREAS, Clayton was born August 25, 1983, in Big Spring;
he joined the United States Army after the terrorist attack on
September 11, 2001; he was a member of the 1st Squadron,
2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment, based at Fort Polk, Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, A man of integrity and strength who had a strong
sense of duty, he will not be forgotten by those who knew him; he
was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star
for his bravery and dedication to his country; and
WHEREAS, He was a devoted son, grandson, and brother, and
he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by his
family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby extend
sincere condolences to the family of Private First Class
Clayton Welch Henson: his parents, Rosalind and James Lewis
of Midland and Randy and Leta Henson of Stanton; his sisters,
Melissa Henson Leiker and Sharon Henson; his brothers, Lex Lewis,
Kason Anderson, and Brandon Anderson; his grandparents, Eldon
and Georgia Welch, Jimmy and Janet Henson, Virginia and
Chuck James, Kathleen Lewis, and Jack and Dorothy Stovall;
and his great-grandmothers, Jessie Glaze, Amelia Ory, and
Millie St. John; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the family of Clayton Henson as an expression of deepest sympathy
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
day, it do so in memory of Clayton Welch Henson.
