SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 98
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Nancy B. Rapoport for her dedicated service as dean of
the University of Houston Law Center; and
WHEREAS, An exemplary professional, Dean Rapoport served
the University of Houston Law Center with unswerving dedication
and integrity; she is widely respected for her knowledge of law,
especially in the areas of bankruptcy ethics and law in popular
culture; and
WHEREAS, She earned a bachelor's degree at Rice University
and was awarded a Juris Doctor from Stanford Law School; and
WHEREAS, She clerked for the Honorable Joseph T. Sneed of
the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and
practiced law at Morrison and Foerster in San Francisco before
pursuing an academic career in law; and
WHEREAS, Initially an assistant professor at The Ohio
State University College of Law, she was promoted to associate
professor before being named a professor and the associate dean
of student affairs in 1998; and
WHEREAS, She served as dean and professor of law of the
University of Nebraska College of Law from 1998 to 2000 before
accepting the position of dean at the University of Houston Law
Center; she was admitted to the state bars of California,
Ohio, Nebraska, and Texas and to the bar of the United States
Supreme Court; and
WHEREAS, Among her published works is Enron: Corporate
Fiascoes and Their Implications, which was coedited with
Professor Bala G. Dharan of Rice University; and
WHEREAS, Dean Rapoport was elected to the membership of
the American Law Institute in 2001 and received a Distinguished
Alumni Award from Rice University in 2002; she is a fellow
of the American Bar Foundation and of the American College of
Bankruptcy; she truly deserves legislative recognition for her
outstanding accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend Nancy B. Rapoport
for her invaluable service as dean of the University of Houston
Law Center and extend to her best wishes in all her future
endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
