SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 104
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize M.O. Campbell, who is being honored by the Aldine
Scholarship Foundation at its 2006 annual fund-raising luncheon;
and
WHEREAS, Mr. Campbell served the Aldine Independent School
District with distinction for more than thirty years; he began
his career as a substitute teacher in Houston, where his
experiences in the classroom convinced him that his calling was
that of an educator; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Campbell joined the Aldine Independent School
District in 1954; after three years of service as a teacher, he
began his rise through the ranks of administration, first as a
counselor, then as the dean of boys at Aldine Senior High School,
and then as the principal of Hambrick Junior High School; and
WHEREAS, Influenced by the financial challenges facing the
Aldine Independent School District in the early 1960s, Mr. Campbell
accepted the position of assistant superintendent of finance and
later took on the role of deputy superintendent; and
WHEREAS, Due to his fiscal management, when Mr. Campbell
assumed the position of superintendent in 1973, the district had
achieved firm financial footing; teacher salaries were among the
highest in Harris County, and the district was operating with one
of the lowest tax rates in the county; and
WHEREAS, During his tenure as superintendent, Mr. Campbell
created the positions of staff attorney and general contractor,
which saved the district millions of dollars; in addition, the
district's Gifted and Talented Program and the Nutrition and
Education Training Program earned widespread praise; among his
initiatives was the Advanced Visual Arts Program, the predecessor
of today's Magnet Schools Program; and
WHEREAS, M.O. Campbell played a major role in making the
Aldine Independent School District the high-quality educational
district it is today, and he deserves recognition for his
outstanding accomplishments on its behalf and his many
contributions to the Aldine community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend M.O. Campbell
for his years of exceptional service to the Aldine Independent
School District and extend congratulations to him on being named
the 2006 honoree of the Aldine Scholarship Foundation; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
