SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 112
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to pay
tribute to Charlie Mae Ransom for her outstanding contributions
to the Dallas community; and
WHEREAS, Miss Ransom, a longstanding Dallas Housing
Authority resident, has been a community activist for more than
60 years, and her determination and commitment have improved the
lives of many children, families, and neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, She is founder and director of Roseland
Homemakers, which played an instrumental role in helping the
Dallas Housing Authority obtain funds from the United States
Department of Housing and Urban Development; and
WHEREAS, A devout member of Munger Avenue Baptist Church,
she practices her faith in her daily life; she has helped
organize Bible study groups and potluck lunches, sharing her
irrepressible hope and high spirits with her neighbors; and
WHEREAS, Central Dallas Ministries presented Miss Ransom
with the 2005 Hazel E. Brown Outstanding Community Partner Award;
named the Dallas Housing Authority's Outstanding Community
Leader and Model Resident, she received recognition from the Weed
and Seed Program of the United States Department of Justice, and
the J.W. Ray Elementary School named its cafeteria in her honor;
and
WHEREAS, District 14 Councilwoman Angela Hunt declared
April 21, 2006, as Charlie Mae Ransom Day, in honor of her
lifetime of service to the community; such a remarkable life is
truly an inspiration to us all; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend
Charlie Mae Ransom for her leadership and extend to her heartfelt
appreciation for her unflagging service to her community and her
state; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
