SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 120
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
join the Texas Summit Committee for Prevention and Texans across
the state in celebrating May 10, 2006, as Prevention Day at the
Capitol; and
WHEREAS, Composed of concerned policymakers and planners,
the Texas Summit Committee for Prevention was created to develop
strategies for forming and implementing a comprehensive drug
prevention plan for the State of Texas; and
WHEREAS, Substance abuse has become a crisis in Texas, and
prevention is a major component of an approach to the problem
that also includes education, intervention, criminal justice,
and treatment and rehabilitation; and
WHEREAS, It is the belief of the Texas Summit Committee for
Prevention that prevention is the most cost-effective, direct,
and humane approach to solving drug problems; the committee's
hope is that prevention efforts will produce a changed society in
which drug use is no longer socially acceptable; and
WHEREAS, Prevention provides opportunities for an
individual to achieve education, enlightenment, and well-being;
dedicated to achieving safe, drug-free communities, the Texas
Summit Committee for Prevention is truly deserving of
legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend the members
of the Texas Summit Committee for Prevention for their efforts to
educate the public on the benefits of prevention in the fight
against substance abuse and declare May 10, 2006, Prevention Day
at the Capitol; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
honor of this occasion.
