SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 121
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to pay
tribute to the life of Samuel Alexander Meyer on the occasion of
his posthumous induction as a laureate into the 2006 Laredo
Business Hall of Fame by Junior Achievement of Laredo; and
WHEREAS, Sam will be remembered at the annual awards
banquet being held May 4, 2006; Junior Achievement of Laredo
annually recognizes individuals who have contributed to the
betterment of Laredo through their outstanding leadership in
business and in the community; and
WHEREAS, A member of a prominent Laredo family, Sam became
one of the first faculty members of Laredo Junior College upon
his return to Laredo from service in the United States Navy in
World War II; he also served as chairman of the college's
original board of trustees; and
WHEREAS, Sam served as a director of the Laredo National
Bank for 36 years; he was noted for his engaging personality, his
generosity, and his many intellectual pursuits; and
WHEREAS, Sam's involvement in civic affairs was diverse and
extensive; he was active with the Laredo Public Library, the
Webb County Child Welfare Board, the Laredo Philharmonic, the
Washington's Birthday Celebration, the Astronomy Club, and the
Noon Lions Club; his legacy of service to the people of Laredo is
an inspiration to all who knew him; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby honor and
commemorate the life of Samuel Alexander Meyer on the occasion of
his posthumous induction into the 2006 Laredo Business Hall of
Fame; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an
expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
