SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 124

	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 
recognize Irving Greenblum, who is being inducted as a laureate 
into the 2006 Laredo Business Hall of Fame by Junior Achievement 
of Laredo; and
	WHEREAS, Junior Achievement of Laredo annually honors 
individuals who have made Laredo a better place to live through 
innovation, leadership, and excellence in business; Irving will 
be honored at the annual awards banquet on May 4, 2006; and
	WHEREAS, Irving was born in Nuevo Laredo in 1929 to Rebecca 
and Morris Greenblum, Polish immigrants seeking a better life for 
their family; they moved to Laredo in 1940, and Irving attended 
Martin High School, where he was on the football, basketball, and 
track teams; and
	WHEREAS, Irving graduated from The University of Texas at Austin
in 1950 with a bachelor's degree in Latin American economics; he 
returned to Laredo and joined the family business in Nuevo Laredo, 
Mueblerias Mexico, Sociedad Anónima, serving as its president from 
1980 until 2002; and
	WHEREAS, Irving has participated in numerous civic 
activities throughout the years and has contributed to such 
organizations as the Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Laredo 
Children's Museum, the Congregation Agudas Achim, and the
Ruthe B. Cowl Rehabilitation Center; his contributions to the 
Laredo community are truly deserving of legislative recognition; 
now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend
Irving Greenblum for his business achievements and outstanding 
service to the community and extend to him congratulations on his 
induction into the 2006 Laredo Business Hall of Fame; and, be it 
further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
