SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 133

	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 
recognize Keller High School senior Lyndon LaPlante, who has 
displayed outstanding perseverance and dedication as a student 
and as a treasured member of the Keller High School football 
team; and
	WHEREAS, An athlete with Down syndrome, Lyndon truly loves 
the game of football; he has competed in the Special Olympics, 
and he has been on the Keller High School football team since he 
was a freshman; he attended every practice, summer camp, team 
meeting, and football game for four years and accompanied his 
team on mentoring visits to elementary schools; and
	WHEREAS, He was encouraged and supported in his role on the
team by Head Coach Kevin Atkinson, who named Lyndon assistant 
head coach after his sophomore year; Lyndon ran plays with the 
team in warm-ups, suited up at games, and was the team's 
photographer from the sidelines; and
	WHEREAS, Asked to go on the field in the fourth quarter 
of the Keller High School football game on October 7, 2005, 
Lyndon made an epic play when he took a handoff inside the Keller 
one yard line and ran 99 yards for a touchdown against Richland 
High School, bringing more than 4,000 fans to their feet; and
	WHEREAS, With his unique skills and abilities, his 
upbeat and outgoing attitude, and "a heart as big as Texas," 
Lyndon LaPlante is a fine example for the young people of this 
state, and he is indeed worthy of special recognition; now, 
therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 
79th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate 
Lyndon LaPlante on his exceptional achievements and extend to 
him best wishes for success in the future; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 
him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate and as 
a memento of this special occasion.
