SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 148
WHEREAS, Members of the Garland Amateur Radio Club join
thousands of their fellow enthusiasts across the United States
and Canada in celebrating Field Day on June 24 and 25, 2006; and
WHEREAS, Sponsored by the American Radio Relay League, the
annual Field Day event is both an opportunity for amateur radio
operators to test and demonstrate their emergency-preparedness
skills and a festive gathering of like-minded hobbyists; and
WHEREAS, Amateur radios are often the only form of
electronic communication to remain functional in a disaster,
and public-spirited ham operators have provided invaluable
assistance to authorities in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina
and during recent outbreaks of wildfires in Texas; and
WHEREAS, The tradition of Field Day dates back to 1933 and
has endured as an enjoyable venue for community outreach for
amateur radio operators, whose numbers are estimated at more than
2.5 million worldwide; and
WHEREAS, Amateur radio enthusiasts have made significant
contributions to science, engineering, and industry and have
even been instrumental in saving lives, and it is indeed a
pleasure to commend the members of the Garland Amateur Radio Club
for their contributions to the greater good; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby recognize the
Garland Amateur Radio Club on the occasion of Field Day 2006 and
extend to its members sincere best wishes for a memorable event;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
prepared for the club as an expression of high regard from the
Texas Senate.
