SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 167
In Memory
of
Eduardo Chavez
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
of Edinburg in mourning the loss of Texas Department of Public
Safety Trooper Eduardo "Edward" Chavez, who died May 2, 2006, at the
age of 30; and
WHEREAS, Trooper Chavez had been with the Texas Department
of Public Safety since 2003 and was stationed at the Palmview
Office, a McAllen substation; he was formerly a deputy with the
Hidalgo County Sheriff's Department; he died in the line of duty
while en route to help his brother, another state trooper, make
an arrest; and
WHEREAS, He was born in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico, and
had lived in Edinburg most of his life; he was a graduate of
Edinburg High School; and
WHEREAS, Edward was a caring and dependable gentleman who
loved his family and was expecting his first child; his death
represents the sacrifices made by the members of the Texas
Department of Public Safety and their families; the citizens of
this state are grateful for his service and saddened by his loss; and
WHEREAS, Edward was a devoted husband, son, and brother,
and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by
his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby honor the life of
State Trooper Eduardo Chavez and extend sincere condolences to
his bereaved family: his wife, Iliana Chavez; his parents,
Enrique and Isabel Chavez; his brothers, Enrique Chavez and
German Chavez; his sister, Monica Chavez; and his grandparents,
Enrique and Francisca Chavez and Odilia Lopez; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
day, it do so in memory of Eduardo Chavez.
