SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 173
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the Girl Scouts of the United States of America on the
occasion of the organization's 94th anniversary; and
WHEREAS, Girl Scouts of the United States of America was
founded by Juliette Gordon Low in 1912 in Savannah, Georgia; and
WHEREAS, Throughout its long and distinguished history,
Girl Scouting has helped girls build confidence, courage, and
character and make the world a better place; and
WHEREAS, Girl Scouting expands girls' horizons by
encouraging them to explore opportunities in mathematics,
science, sports, technology, entrepreneurship, and other areas
of interest; and
WHEREAS, More than 3.8 million current Girl Scout members
nationwide will be celebrating 94 years of this American
tradition this year, along with nearly 50 million women who are
former Girl Scouts and are living proof of the impact of this
superior organization; and
WHEREAS, More than 9,000 local Girl Scouts and adult
volunteers are celebrating the 50th anniversary of Cross Timbers
Council, which proudly serves the North Texas communities of
Cooke, Denton, Grayson, Montague, and Wise Counties; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby join citizens
throughout the nation in celebrating the 94th anniversary of
the Girl Scouts of the United States of America and commend all
who are a part of this organization for their participation in
an outstanding American tradition; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
honor of this special occasion.
