SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 194
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Dallas Independent School District's School for the Talented and Gifted at Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center for its exceptional educational achievements; and WHEREAS, The school has been named the top public high school in the nation by Newsweek magazine; it was selected from among 1,139 high schools across the country noted for doing an outstanding job in preparing students for college; the school is part of the Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center, whose executive principal is Alice Black; and WHEREAS, School for the Talented and Gifted Principal Michael Satarino says that credit for the school's successes must go to his students, who have a passion for learning and who are recognized as being among the best and brightest in the nation; and WHEREAS, The students, 60 percent of whom are minorities, are committed to education and forego traditional high school activities like sports and cheerleading to go to the talented and gifted magnet school; and WHEREAS, The students of the School for the Talented and Gifted, Principal Satarino, and Executive Principal Alice Black are truly worthy of legislative recognition for their great achievements; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate the students, faculty, and administration of the School for the Talented and Gifted at Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center on being named the best school in the nation and commend them on their fine work; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the school as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
